July 18th AIS Identification Training with a Side of Ice Cream–Clear Lake Boat Landing

Third of Four Summer 2024 AIS Identification Trainings

The aquatic invasive plant Eurasian watermilfoil has been found in Manitowish Lake and the Trout River.  Curly-leaf pondweed has made it over the dam into Vance Lake.  Join with your neighbors and friends and learn how to identify Eurasian watermilfoil, curly-leaf pondweed and other invasive plants and how to monitor for their presence.  And enjoy an ice cream sundae while you learn!

The MWLA is sponsoring 4 identification trainings at boat landings and parks across the community this summer.  This July 18th event will be at the Clear Lake boat landing with Discovery Center Woods & Waters staff providing the training.  Participants will learn how to identify several invasive plants, including three of our most concerning invasive species, Eurasian watermilfoil, curly-leaf pondweed, and purple loosestrife.

The AIS Identification training will run from 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.  Then, as an extra at this particular training, from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. you can attend the Clean Boats, Clean Waters training and learn how to monitor boats at landings throughout our area.

Anyone from the community is welcome to attend. We are encouraging people on the Manitowish River above the dam and from Fawn, Clear and Rest Lakes to come to this event, but anyone is welcome.  If you are from one of these lakes and cannot make it to this event, please come to one of the other trainings this summer.  And no matter where you live, if you are interested in Clean Boats, Clean Water monitor training, please come for sure!

Participants will also receive a copy of the Wisconsin AIS Early Detector Handbook (one per family).

In case of rain, the AIS identification training, the Clean Boats, Clean Waters training and the ice cream event will still be held in the Lions’ Pavilion on the Community Center grounds from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

So mix a little fun, a little learning, a little ice cream, and some time with your fellow community members while you learn how to identify and monitor for aquatic invasive species.

No registration, just show up.  Free event.
