MW Chain of Lakes Aquatic Plant Management Plan–2026

The Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes Aquatic Plant Management Plan–2026 has been completed.  To access the Plan, please click here.

This plan is the result of months of meetings, discussion, consultations, survey development, on the water data collection and input from multiple sources.  As Manitowish Waters shares portions of several lakes with other communities, tribal officials from the Lac du Flambeau Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and town officials from Boulder Junction and from Manitowish Waters joined with the Manitowish Waters Lakes Association in developing this plan.  The Woods and Waters Team of the North Lakeland Discovery Center contributed significantly throughout this project.  In addition, community members supplied input through comments to the MWLA and through the survey process that occurred during the summer of 2025.

The WI DNR provided input at multiple stages of the development of this plan.

Data relative to the removal of aquatic invasive species on the Chain performed by Aquatic Plant Management is included in this plan.

Onterra Lake Management provided background data, guidance, expertise, and prepared the plan through the cooperative efforts of all those mentioned above.

During the survey process of 2025 community members indicated a desire to know more about various aspects of monitoring and control.  An interactive map is nearly complete and will be available on the MWLA website in the upcoming weeks that will allow users to zoom-in on parts of the Chain to better understand monitoring that has been done and areas where active control has occurred.

In addition, the MWLA website and future mailings to the MWLA membership will include information regarding monitoring and control methods.

Please feel free to access this resource and to let others know of this plan.
